Newcastle Meals On Wheels

About us

Newcastle Meals on Wheels helps people live independently with nutritious meals, friendly check-ins, and services that support health and wellbeing. Backed by an amazing 450‑strong volunteer workforce and dedicated staff, we deliver care, connection, and reliability across the Hunter.

We provide services to CHSP, Home Care Package (Support at Home), NDIS, and private clients, and we also act as a wholesale supplier of locally made meals to other Meals on Wheels services.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, we deliver meals to over 1,300 clients from our nine Hunter branches:

Boolaroo, Hamilton, Lambton, Mayfield, Morisset, Stockton, Tomaree, Toronto and Wallsend.

Through nutrition, wellness checks, and social connection, we help reduce loneliness and health risks, strengthening independence and community wellbeing.

Our History

Our story began in Newcastle in 1963 when Reverend Donald Bailey formed the Newcastle Meals on Wheels Fellowship—starting with meal deliveries to just seven elderly residents.

Since then, we have grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. While our services and reach have expanded, our commitment to providing high‑quality meals and compassionate care has remained constant. Today, we continue to be a trusted provider of nutritional and social support for those who need it most.

Our History

For us it all began here in Newcastle in 1963…. Reverend Donald Bailey introduced the service by starting a caring group known as the Newcastle Meals on Wheels Fellowship which began deliveries to seven elderly people. Over the decades, we have evolved and expanded our services to meet the growing needs of our clients. Our commitment to providing high-quality meals and compassionate care has remained steadfast, and we take pride in our role as a trusted provider of nutritional support for those who need it most.

Our Team

Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers is the heart of Newcastle Meals on Wheels. They bring passion, care, and professionalism to their roles, ensuring that every client receives the best possible service. Our volunteers deliver meals with a smile and a friendly check-in, offering not just sustenance but also a vital human connection. We believe in the power of community and are grateful for the tireless efforts of our team members who make a positive difference every day.

Our Services

In addition to meal delivery, Newcastle Meals on Wheels offers a range of services designed to support the health and well-being of our clients. These include social support programs, wellness checks, and assistance with accessing other community resources. We strive to be a comprehensive source of support, helping our clients maintain their independence and quality of life.

Our Impact

The impact of our services extends beyond the individuals we serve. By providing nutritious meals and social interaction, we help reduce the risk of malnutrition, loneliness, and hospital readmissions among our clients. Our work contributes to the overall health and vibrancy of the community, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual care.

Our Vision

Nourish lives, support independence and create happy inclusive communities through the power of food and connection.
