Newcastle Meals on Wheels: Serving the Community Since 1963.
Since 1963, Newcastle Meals on Wheels has been delivering more than just meals. We deliver nourishment, connection, and peace of mind to people across our community who need it most.
For over sixty years, we have supported older Australians and others requiring assistance with healthy, home-delivered meals and a friendly smile, three times a week.
We are a local not-for-profit organisation committed to helping people live independently, safely, and with dignity in their own homes.
There’s a reason our community-based charity has thrived and evolved for more than six decades: our service is reliable and built on trust, quality, and genuine care.
We’re more than just a meal.
Our History
Newcastle Meals on Wheels began serving the local community in 1963. We started small, delivering meals to just seven local residents. Today, we support more than 1,200 clients every week across 10 branches throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, and the Port Stephens regions.
The original Meals on Wheels concept began in England in 1943 to support older people wishing to stay in their homes. More than 80 years later, that same spirit of neighbour helping neighbour continues to guide everything we do.
Our Impact, Vision, and Purpose
“This year, we delivered over 355,000 meals and logged thousands of volunteer hours. These numbers reflect more than just output - they represent lives touched, relationships built, and communities strengthened.”
Danielle Reitano, CEO, Newcastle Meals on Wheels
Each year, our work contributes to:
- Preventing malnutrition
