Newcastle Meals On Wheels

Our Wellbeing Checks

At Newcastle Meals on Wheels, every meal delivery includes a friendly Wellbeing Check. When our volunteer arrives at your home, they don’t just drop off a meal, they:

  • Greet you in person
  • Ask how you’re feeling
  • Take a moment for a friendly chat
  • Ensure you are safe and well

This simple visit can make a powerful difference.

What Is a Wellbeing Check?

A Wellbeing Check is a face-to-face safety and social check-in during meal delivery.

Our volunteers are trained to notice if something isn’t right. If a customer has had a fall, is unwell, or needs urgent help, our team can:

  • Contact next of kin
  • Notify a care provider
  • Arrange emergency support if required

In some cases, these visits have saved lives. But most days, a Wellbeing Check simply means:

  • A smiling face
  • A conversation
  • A moment of connection

And that matters just as much.

Peace of Mind for Families

If you are supporting an ageing parent, you may worry about:

  • Are they eating properly?
  • Are they safe at home?
  • Would anyone know if something went wrong?

Our Wellbeing Checks provide peace of mind.

With us, you’ll know:

  • Someone sees your loved one regularly
  • Someone is looking out for changes
  • Someone will raise the alarm if needed

We become part of your extended care network.

More Than a Meal Delivery Service

Newcastle Meals on Wheels is different from courier-style meal delivery services. We don’t “drop and run.” We deliver healthy meals to the front door or kitchen table. We say hello. We check in. As a not-for-profit organisation, every visit is about care, not profit. That’s the difference. Our mission is to support older people to remain healthy, nourished, and independent in their own homes.

How to Arrange Meals with Wellbeing Checks

Every meal delivery with Newcastle Meals on Wheels includes a Wellbeing Check at no extra cost.

Do You Offer Additional Social Support?

Yes, we provide more personalised Social Support by arrangement. This service can be limited, however, due to funding availability.

When available, our Social Support services are designed to reduce isolation, increase safety, and improve quality of life for older people living independently.
